Track & Field Compete at Providence Open

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Montana Tech Track & Field teams competed at the University of Providence Open yesterday. The Oredigger women finished in second place and the men took third in the Frontier Conference meet.

"With most of the Billings meet being canceled yesterday we tried some different entries on short notice for this Great Falls meet," said head coach Zach Kughn. "We did a few less events and a few new events but we had great weather and great in-conference competition so we had a lot fun."

Carroll College won the women's meet with a score of 89 and the Orediggers posted 55 points. Providence finished third with 30 and MSU-Northern took fourth with five.

"I'm continually amazed how many of our athletes are able to continually set personal bests week after week. Particularly on the women's side we really have a ton of great athletes."

Olleca Severson finished first in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles. Naiya Beaudin took second in the 100 and third in the 400.

Natylia Jacobson won the 200m with a time of 25.56.

Abby Clark won the high jump with a mark of 1.47m or 4'9.75".

Carlin Manning and Madison Kelly went one-two in the in 1500m posting times of 5:14.75 and 5:20.25. Alisa Hashley finished fourth with a time of 5:31.07.

The Oredigger women won the 4x100m relay in 49.01 seconds. The team consisted of Beaudin, Emily Ratz, Severson, and Jacobson.

Jenna Jordan won the javelin and hit the A standard to qualify for the national championship with a mark of 41.63m or 136'7".

Tristen Sedgwick took second in the javelin with a mark of 36.64m and finished third in the discus tossing a 40.4m or 132'10" mark.

The Saints won the men's side with 110 points and Providence in second with a score of 29. The Orediggers had 24 points for third.

Drake Schlachter took third in the 100m and 200m races with times of 11.61 and 23.12.

Caden Caywood finished fourth in the 200m with a time of 23.27.

Dom Maricelli finished fourth in the 100m in 11.68 seconds. Maricelli also took third in the 400m hurdles with a mark of 1:04.21.

Christian Tucker took second in the 400m with a time of 51.39.

Justin Morgan was edged into second in the 1500m by .7 seconds finishing with a time of 4:15.96.

Cody Burk took second in the shot put with a toss of 13.46m or 44'2".

Ethan Schlepp was third in the discus with a toss of 39.62m or 130'.

Daniel Difort finished second in the javelin with a throw of 46.40m or 152'3".

The Orediggers finished second in both relays.

"Culture wise I think we are having more fun every week and coming together more and more each week as well. I'm extremely happy with where we are at right now given that we are inside three weeks away from the conference championship."
