Helena, Mont.- The Frontier Conference announced their Football Players of the Week awards on Monday, and the Special Teams award went to Montana Tech punter
Andrew Almos.
Andrew, the returning Frontier Conference First Team All-Conference punter from a year ago, had a fantastic night in Ellensburg as the Orediggers knocked off Division II opponent Central Washington 37-29.
In the win, Andrew had five punts averaging 46.4 yards, with two punts inside the 20, and a long of 66 yards (which matches his career best).
That wasn't the end of Andrew's story on Saturday.
With 8:36 left in the third quarter Montana Tech was looking at 4
th and 9 on the Wildcats 45 yards line. First Team All-Conference punterÂ
Andrew Almos came in to punt it away to Central Washington with the Orediggers trailing 21-16. Instead of blasting it toward coffin corner, the Diggs ran the fake punt and Almos delivered a strike toÂ
Levi Torgerson that went for 31 yards, all the way down to the Wildcats 14-yard line. The next snap quarterbackÂ
Blake Thelen foundÂ
Wyatt Alexander for a touchdown. After the PAT the Orediggers led 23-21, and they would never trail again.
The Offensive player of the week was awarded to College of Idaho player Andy Peters, and the Defensive honor went to Carroll's Tug Smith.
The Orediggers are back at home this Saturday hosting Easter Oregon University, at 1:00pm, at Alumni Coliseum to start Frontier Conference regular season play.
