COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Montana Tech women's cross country team established a new program-best finish at the NAIA National Championship Friday, scooting to 21st place in the team standings.
Graduate student
Alyssa Plant led the way for the Orediggers in 84th. The Helena product covered the 6-kilometer Gans Creek Cross Country Course in 22 minutes, 34.2 seconds.
Junior
Kamryn Comba was the next across the line for Montana Tech, coming in 118th in 22:55.4, and junior
Alyssa Jany followed 3 seconds later in 124th. Freshman
Emily See also ducked into the top 150, placing 147th in 23:11.4 in her national-meet debut. Sophomore Makenzie Sheils rounded out the scoring for the Orediggers; she was 257th (24:32.6).
Freshmen
Peyton Walker (260th, 24:33.2) and
Bella Bermingham (273rd, 24:47.2) also competed for Montana Tech.
The Orediggers' 21st-place team finish was the second-highest in the program's history and put the team two spots higher than its No. 23 ranking headed into the meet.
Montana Tech finished the season as the Frontier Conference champions in the sport and were the league's only team qualifier to the NAIA national meet. The Orediggers have made three team appearances in the championship race in the five-year history of the program.
