HELENA, Mont.- Montana Tech's
Abby Clark is the Frontier Conference Champion in the heptathlon.
She entered day two of the heptathlon winning all four of the day one events, and racking up an incredible 3011 points. The final three events went much like the first four, with Abby winning both the long jump (5.53m) and the 800m (2:25.83.) The only event she didn't win in the seven events was the javelin, where she placed third at 33.52m.
Over the seven events, Abby finished with 5009 points in the competition - a new Personal Record-, and the second-highest score in the country this season. Teammate
Rylee Armstrong finished in fourth place.
The Orediggers brought a skeleton crew to Helena to compete in the Trudnowski Open, focusing mainly on the multi-events, and knowing that the Frontier Conference Championships are a bit over a week away in the Mining City.
The meet was won by Carroll College on both the men's and women's side. The Carroll women posted 218 points, Providence was second with 132, Rocky placed third and the Orediggers fourth with 18 points.
Again, competing with a very short roster, the Orediggers got a win in the 400m by sophomore
Kamryn Comba, as she finished in 1:00.28.
In the 800m,
Taleigh Adrian crossed in a time of 2:24.70, which was good for third place
On the men's side, Carroll got the win with 214 points, Providence was second with 101, Rocky third, Western fourth, and the Orediggers put up 13 points.
Individually, Montana Tech finished second through fourth in the decathlon. Similar to the women's multi being the Frontier Conference Championship, the men's decathlon was for the outdoor hardware. Freshman
Cameron Tobiness put up 4795 points, which landed him in second place,
Eli Byrd finished third with 4544 points, and freshman
Will Sanguins (competing in his first decathlon) fourth with 4203 points.
Individually the Orediggers only had two men compete individually,
Tyler Walter who placed second in the long jump (6.42m), and Kellen Coliflower who placed third in the 110m hurdles (17.33).
Montana Tech will now prepare for the Frontier Conference Championships that they will host on May 5-6 at Charlie Merrifield Track in Butte.
The Orediggers will enter the meet with a pair of Frontier Conference Champions,
Alyssa Jany in the 3000m steeplechase, and
Abby Clark in the women's heptathlon.
