BOZEMAN -- Matthew Moreni toppled his own program record in the indoor 200-meter dash, highlighting a terrific start to the indoor season for the Montana Tech track & field teams Thursday at the Bobcat PReview.
Moreni won the 200m in 22.16 seconds, topping his own program record (set in February) in the opening meet at Montana State University's new Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center.
It was the only school record to fall on the day, but the Oredigger men showed well otherwise.
Konnor Gregerson and
Justin Morgan won the 400m dash and 5,000m run, respectively, for Tech. Gregerson paced the field in the 400m at 50.89, good enough for second all-time in the Oredigger record book.
Morgan won the 5,000m in a collegiate-best 15:17.88, the third-fastest in program history.
Morgan McClernan earned a podium finish in the 60m hurdles, taking second (8.38), and
Jeremiah Saari was fifth in the long jump, a collegiate-best leap of 6.62m to take fifth and move to third on the all-time Oredigger leaderboard.
In the throws,
Bode Hipple moved to second all-time in the weight throw with a 15.33m toss. He finished 11th in the event and was 13th in the shot put (13.98m).
Emma Konen led the way for the Tech women, taking fourth in the high jump with a 1.55m bound. That jump put the sophomore third on the Diggers' all-time list.
Peyton Walker also made the podium, taking third in the 200m (28.12).
