BUTTE -- The No. 25-ranked Montana Tech women's basketball team capped off a perfect weekend against ranked opponents, topping No. 16 Carroll, 69-62, Saturday evening in Valley Bank Arena.

Liv Wangerin and Halle Haber both scored 14 points for the Orediggers (8-1, 4-1 Frontier Conference), while Hadley Humpherys added 13 and Brooke Badovinac scored 10.

Montana Tech started the game with an 8-0 run. Humpherys set the tone with a 3-pointer on the game's opening possession, followed by buckets from Haber and Wangerin to jumpstart the game.

But the lead didn't last long. Carroll returned the favor with a 12-4 run of its own to knot the score at the 4:41 mark in the first quarter. Tech finished the opening frame ahead 21-19.

Tech dominated the second, outscoring the Saints (5-4, 3-2) by a 21-6 margin in the quarter to take a 42-25 lead into the half.

Carroll began to trim the lead in the second half, cutting the deficit to 10 with 2:05 left in the third following a pair of Ava Oakland free throws. Tech headed to the fourth ahead by 12, 58-46.

The Saints, however, kept the momentum in the final frame. Carroll nailed back-to-back 3-pointers followed by a Meagan Karstetter layup that made it a four-point ballgame with 6:54 remaining, and the teams battled down the stretch.

With the lead in jeopardy, Humpherys, Haber, and Wangerin all made key baskets in the waning minutes to seal the win.

Montana Tech has claimed three of the latest four meetings with its archrival after snapping a 23-game losing streak against the Saints in January.

The Orediggers will break for final exams before returning to Frontier Conference play next Saturday evening against Mayville State.
