HELENA, Mont. -- Cade VanVleet had a huge weekend for the Montana Tech track & field team in Bozeman. Tuesday, the Frontier Conference bestowed its indoor men's field athlete of the week on the junior.
VanVleet, a thrower from Noxon, posted another NAIA 'A' standard in the shot put, tossing 16.61 meters to finish second in the event at Montana State's Bobcat Performance. He also broke the program record in the weight throw, covering 17.02m, which was good enough for fourth place.
VanVleet currently ranks fifth in the NAIA in the shot put and 27th in the weight throw.
The Frontier Conference award was VanVleet's second of the season. He also won it December 10. Montana Tech swept the league's field events superlatives for the week; Rylee Armstrong won the women's honor.
Montana Tech's indoor track & field teams will return to competition in Spokane, Wash., February 6-8, at the Riverfront Invitational at The Podium.
