HELENA, Mont. -- Montana Tech freshman
Ayla Janzen garnered another weekly honor this week, laying claim to the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference women's field athlete of the week award, the league office announced Tuesday.
Janzen posted the Orediggers' program record in the women's triple jump at 11.80 meters, a mark that won her the event at Thursday's Providence Open in Great Falls. That was good enough to put the Twin Bridges product 14th in the NAIA so far this season and earned her a national 'B' standard to make her eligible for next month's outdoor national championship meet.
She also put together a tremendous meet on the track. Janzen took part in a program-record 4x100m relay (48.55 seconds) with teammates
Cora Pesanti,
Abby Clark, and
Olleca Severson. She ran a collegiate-best 15.35 in the 100m hurdles to take third and raced the 100m dash in 12.96 to finish fifth.
Janzen shared the award with Providence thrower Lauren Cima. UP's Kelsey Stensland-Plymale won the weekly honor on the track. It's the second athlete of the week award for the freshman this season; she won the league's track athlete of the week honor April 1.
The Orediggers will hit the road again Friday and Saturday, heading to Helena for Carroll College's Trudnowski Open.
