HELENA, Mont. -- Matthew Moreni didn't miss the podium Friday at the Trudnowski Open in his hometown of Helena.
Tuesday, the Montana Tech track & field freshman laid claim to the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference men's track athlete of the week for his efforts.
Moreni won the 100-meter dash in his homecoming meet in a Oredigger-record 10.72 seconds, teamed with
Morgan McClernan,
Carter Henke, and
Will Wagner for victory in the 4x100m relay (42.09), and was runner-up in the 400m hurdles (54.62).
It was an exclamation point on a fantastic debut outdoor season for the Capital High product. He has set Montana Tech records in both the 100m and 200m dashes and 4x100m and 4x400m relays so far this season, notching an NAIA 'B' qualifying standard in the latter.
The weekly honor is the third of his freshman campaign and the second during the outdoor season.
Moreni and the Orediggers will head to Missoula this weekend for the Montana Open before preparing for postseason competition.
