HELENA, Mont. -- Another
Cade VanVleet program record over the weekend earned the Montana Tech track & field junior another Frontier Conference men's field athlete of the week award, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Noxon product continued his fantastic start to the outdoor season Friday at the Whitworth Peace Meet in Spokane, Wash. His 53.14-meter discus toss shattered his own program record in the event by a couple meters and setting an NAIA 'A' qualifying standard in the process.
VanVleet was second in the event, and he also was runner-up in the hammer throw with a 53.96m heave. He took third in the shot put, tossing 16.66m. All three marks were outdoor season bests for the junior.
He currently ranks fifth in the NAIA in the discus, seventh in the shot put, and 11th in the hammer throw. He's already qualified for next month's outdoor national championships in the discus and shot.
It was VanVleet's third athlete of the week honor of the season; the All-American won it twice during the indoor season.
Montana Tech's track & field teams will continue their jaunt through the outdoor schedule with a trip to Great Falls Thursday for the Providence Open.
