MARION, Ind. -- Montana Tech senior
Jenna Jordan threw her way to a seventh-place finish Wednesday on the opening day of the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, earning All-America honors in the women's javelin at Indiana Wesleyan University.
The Corvallis native threw the spear 41.54 meters on her last of six throws Wednesday to take seventh in the national field, repeating her All-America status from two seasons ago. Jordan was seventh as a sophomore at the national championships and 14th last season as a junior.
Meanwhile,
Abby Clark showed well on Day 1 of the two-day heptathlon competition. Clark, a senior from Fort Benton, sits fifth in the 16-woman field with 3,023 points. She is only 61 points out of first place.
Clark set a pair of new personal bests Wednesday, winning the 200m dash in 25.42 seconds and placing ninth in the 100m hurdles at 15.17. She also logged a third-place finish in the high jump (1.62m) and a fourth-place result in the shot put (11.01m).
On the men's side, junior
Cade VanVleet placed 16th in the hammer throw, hurling the weight 54.56m. Fellow junior
Colter Ball logged a 20th-place finish in the javelin, measuring out at 52.51m.
Montana Tech's track & field teams will continue competition Thursday at the NAIA outdoor national meet starting with Clark in the final three events of the heptathlon beginning at 9 a.m. MDT. Freshman
Ayla Janzen will compete in the women's triple jump at 3:30 p.m., followed by VanVleet in the men's discus at 4 p.m., and the men's 4x400m relay in the preliminary heats at 6:30 p.m.
