HELENA -- Montana Tech graduate student
Abby Clark cemented a trip to NAIA nationals in her final track & field season Thursday.
Tuesday, those efforts earned the Fort Benton native the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference indoor women's field athlete of the week award, the conference office announced.
Clark won the pentathlon at the Riverfront Invitational & Multis last week in Spokane, Wash., putting up the NAIA's No. 2 score of the season in the combined event. Her 3,576 points in the multi were just off her own program record.
Thursday's was a record-setting day for Clark, though. She cleared 1.70 meters in the high jump for the first time ever, jumping to No. 4 on the NAIA leaderboard and earning the national meet's 'A' qualification standard in the process.
A five-time All-American, all in multis, and the first-ever CSC Academic All-American in Oredigger track & field history, Clark's athlete of the week honor is the first for her (or any Montana Tech woman) this season and the seventh of her career.
She and the Orediggers will return to competition Saturday, playing host to the second installment of the Montana Tech Winter Series at the Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center in Bozeman. Competition is set to begin at 1 p.m.
