HELENA -- Montana Tech sophomore
Ayla Janzen had a banner day at the Montana Tech Winter Series No. 2 meet over the weekend, one that earned her the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference women's indoor track athlete of the week award, the league office announced Tuesday.
Janzen notched a pair of personal bests in Saturday's meet at the Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center in Bozeman, one on the track and one on the runway.
Her winning 5.78-meter long jump earned the Silver Star native a trip to next month's NAIA indoor championships with the 'A' qualification standard. That mark ranks 13th in the country this season.
On the track, Janzen posted a personal-record 7.82-second 60m dash to finish second, and she was also runner-up in the 60m hurdles, crossing the line in a season-best time of 8.89. She ranks 34th nationally in the hurdles and 90th in the sprint.
Janzen also teamed up with
Jadyn Vermillion,
Alayna Hurd, and
Teresa Luisi to take fourth in the 4x300m relay.
As a freshman, Janzen qualified for both the NAIA's indoor and outdoor championship meets last season. She was 22nd in the 60m hurdles at indoor nationals and matched that result in the triple jump at the outdoor meet.
She is the second Oredigger woman to earn a weekly conference award this season, joining
Abby Clark, who was the field honoree last week. It marks the third time Janzen has stamped her name on the conference's weekly honors; she won the league's outdoor track and field awards once each in 2025.
Janzen and the Orediggers will head to Brookings, S.D. this week to compete for the first-ever Frontier Conference indoor track & field championship. Competition begins Saturday at South Dakota State's Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
