SPOKANE, Wash. -- Twice was nice for
Morgan McClernan on Saturday.
The Montana Tech track & field standout broke his own men's 60-meter hurdles record twice as the Orediggers completed their stay at The Podium's Riverfront Invitational & Multis in Spokane, Wash.
McClernan, a senior from Butte, raced the preliminary heats in 8.24 seconds to reach the finals and best his own program record in the event by .03 seconds. Later, in finals, he beat it again, coming in fourth in 8.23 seconds. That time was good enough for 23rd in the NAIA this season and second in the Frontier Conference.
He then teamed up with
Konnor Gregerson,
Matthew Moreni, and
Adam Schrader to race to third in the 4x400m relay. The Oredigger quartet finished in 3:18.69, less than a second off the NAIA 'B' qualification standard. That time was good enough for second on Tech's all-time list and ranks 21st in the NAIA.
Zach Merrifield also raced for Montana Tech Saturday, coming in 14th in the 60m dash in 6.97 seconds.
The Oredigger track & field teams will be back at it next weekend at two sites. Montana Tech will take a contingent of men to Idaho State's Mountain State Games Friday and Saturday to compete for the Frontier Conference heptathlon championship, while the rest of the Diggers head to Bozeman Saturday for the second installment of the Montana Tech Winter Series at Montana State's Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center.
