HELENA -- Morgan McClernan again led the Montana Tech men's track & field team to victory Saturday.
Tuesday, he again earned the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference men's track athlete of the week award for his efforts.
The senior from Butte won the 110-meter hurdles at the Montana Tech Spring Series No. 2 meet at East Middle School, crossing the line with his fourth NAIA 'B' qualifying standard of the season in the event. His time of 14.38 seconds was good enough for victory.
McClernan also helped the Orediggers put up a couple of season-best relays. He teamed with
Jaxon Allery,
Matthew Moreni, and
Zach Merrifield to break the program record in the 4x100m; the quartet's time of 41.22 ranks 24th in the NAIA. He then closed the meet with another win, collaborating with
Carter Henke,
Michael Marlow, and
Konnor Gregerson for a season-low 3:20.76 in the 4x400m. That time put the team 45th in the country.
The weekly honor is the third of McClernan's season and the second in as many weeks. He claimed the award April 7 and March 24.
McClernan and the Orediggers will have a busy weekend again coming up. He and a group of Montana Tech athletes will head to southern California for the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State. Another contingent will head to Dickinson, N.D. for the Frontier Conference's combined events championships, while the remainder of the team travels to Helena Saturday for the Trudnowski Open, hosted by Carroll College.
