DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- Freshmen led the charge for the Montana Tech men's golf team on the first day of the 2026-27 season as the Orediggers played their way to third place two-thirds of the way through the Mayville Fall Invite Monday.

The Orediggers played the first two tournament rounds to team scores of 307 and 295. That total of 26-over-par 602 put Tech squarely in third place, 26 shots off second-place Bellevue and 13 ahead of fourth-place Providence. Rocky Mountain leads the tournament at 9-under as a team.

Hudson Goroski topped the leaderboard for the Orediggers, carding rounds of even par and 1-over in his collegiate debut to play himself into a tie for sixth. Chase Choquette wasn't far behind, finishing up 36 holes at 6-over. The Butte High product sits 12th.

Goroski was steady all day, shooting two birdies in his first collegiate round to finish at 1-over. The Missoula native followed that with an even-par round in the afternoon, one that included three birdies and an eagle that came on the par-5 12th hole.

Choquette fired a 5-over 77 in his opener, followed by his 1-over 73 that featured five birdies.

Senior Joe McGreevey wasn't far behind, shooting rounds of 80 and 73 to play into a tie for 14th at 9-over.

Juniors Tyler Avery (77-84) and Carson Hupka (83-78) followed in a tie for 27th, and freshman Isaac Mosser wrapped up the Orediggers' lineup with rounds of 86 and 77. Mosser is 33rd on the leaderboard.

Montana Tech's men will wrap up the tournament Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
