Digger Athletics Hall of Fame
The 1962 football team snapped a nine-year 44-game losing streak by defeating Northern Montana College 33-7. Led by Hall of Fame Coach Ed F. Simonich, the victory is believed to have saved football and athletics at Montana Tech. A team comprised of student-athletes that did not receive academic scholarships, played for pride and the passion of the game. Despite the longest losing streak in school history and odds against them, a team of just 31 players showed grit and a “never give up” attitude. The victory signaled that athletics had a place at Montana Tech. The teams in the years after built on the historic win establishing competitive football at Montana Tech.
