Box Score Butte – The College of Idaho proved too much for the 'Diggers Saturday night and ran away with the win. The Yotes defeated the 'Diggers 84-71 on Kelvin Sampson Court.
Montana Tech had the lead briefly in the first half when freshman
Mandy Machinal put the 'Diggers ahead on free throws, 14-16 with 8:53 to play in the first half. But that would be the last time Tech was ahead of the Yotes for the rest of the game. The Yotes went on an 11-0 run after that and finished the half ahead of Tech 34-25.
The College of Idaho ran away with the game in the second half. Their lead grew to 22 points at one point. The Yotes shot 45.9-percent from the field in the second half and went 14 of 15 from the free throw line.
Mandy Machinal had her best game of her young career leading the 'Diggers with 22 points. The freshman from Richaland, WA heated up at the end of the second half and almost brought Tech back into the game. Machinal hit two three pointers in a row with 2:32 to go. She drove the basket on her third straight possession for the basket and the foul. She hit the free throw to complete her 9 straight points.
Sophomore
Kelsey DeWit had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. This was DeWit's best game of the season.
Senior
Tabitha Tomlinson had a solid game with 12 points, a block and a steal. Tomlinson was 4 for 5 on field goals and 3 for 4 from the free throw line.
Tina Fakahafua stayed hot for the Yotes and led the team in scoring with 17 points. Fakahafua had 6 rebounds, 2 steals and went 2 for 33 from beyond the arc.
The Lady 'Diggers are back in action on Friday November 25th when they host Point Loma at 7 pm at Kelvin Sampson Court. The Point Loma game is part of the Peggy Sarsfield 3 on 3 Tournament weekend.
