Tech Upsets No. 20 Cal State

Salt Lake City – Adam Greger turned in his second big night helping lead the Orediggers over No. 20 Cal State San Marcos 85-81 at the Westminster Thanksgiving Classic.

Montana Tech (5-2) picks up their second win at the tournament going undefeated this weekend. It was another big win for Tech at the tournament defeating NCAA Division II Chadron State last night.

Last season's Frontier Freshman of the year had 32 points, 11 rebounds and a block on the night. It was the second double-double in two games for Greger. He was a staggering 11 of 14 from the field including 3 of 5 from three and 7 of 8 from the line.

“Greger made play after play after play tonight,” said head coach Aaron Woliczko. “He was very efficient and I'm really proud of him.”

The Orediggers were up by nine with 9:51 to go in the first half. Cal State put on the pressure going into the break taking a 45-43 lead into the break.

“We did a great job controlling the tempo in the first ten minutes,” said Woliczko.

“They picked up the pressure and we had a problem with turnovers the second half of the first half.”

After the break, Tech was able to get the shots they wanted taking over the tempo of the game. They took the lead for good with 16:38 left to go in the game.

Junior Travis Peevey drained big three pointers for the Orediggers keeping Tech in control. Peevey went 3 of 6 in the game from beyond the arc to finish with nine points.

Quinn Smith had 11 points and three rebounds.

Dan Simon had eight points and six rebounds.

Ali Langford had 24 points and seven rebounds for Cal State.

Montana Tech is home next week for two games. The Orediggers host Whitworth Wednesday night at the HPER Complex. Tech ended Whitworth's 41-game home winning streak last year.
