Butte – The Orediggers couldn't match Whitworth's long ball Wednesday night. Whitworth downed the Orediggers 90-75.
The Pirates (2-1) avenge the loss from last season that ended their 41-game home win streak. The Orediggers (5-3) pick up the loss after winning their last two games.
Tech scored slowly out of the gate as Whitworth took advantage of hot three-point shooting. The Pirates shot 56.3-percent from beyond the arc in the first half collecting nine treys.
The Pirates led 47-36 at the break.
The hot hand by the Pirates carried over into the beginning of the second half. Whitworth held their largest lead of 20 points with 15:58 to go in the game.
The Orediggers held the score with the Pirates through the rest of the game, but couldn't make up enough ground from the early deficit.
Tech did well slashing to the basket hitting 52.7-percent from the field on the night. Unlike last weekend, they had less effect with the long ball shooting just 31.6-percent from beyond the arc.
The Pirates shot 59.3-percent from three-point range in the game.
The Orediggers had four in double digits.
Adam Greger had 17 points, two rebounds and two assists.
Travis Peevey had 16 points going 4 of 9 from three-point range.
Bryan Bock had 12 points, six rebounds and a pair of assists.
Brandon Rydberg had 10 points and a pair of steals.
George Valle led the Pirates with 23 points.
Montana Tech is home again on Friday night. The Orediggers host Willamette at 7 p.m. at the HPER Complex.
