Orediggers Fall Short Against Warriors

Lewiston, Idaho – Montana Tech almost upset No. 11 Lewis-Clark State Saturday night. The Warriors hit a last second shot edging the Orediggers 65-63.

The Orediggers (8-5, 0-1) lose the Frontier Conference opener for the first time under head coach Aaron Woliczko.

Lewis-Clark State (14-0, 2-0) stays unbeaten by winning their fourteenth straight game.

The Oredigger led most of the first half taking a six point lead into halftime 33-27.

The Warriors slowly crept back into the game finally pulling ahead 57-56 with 3:33 to play in the game.

“We did a great job contesting shots down the stretch, they just made shots. Our guys were fighting all night,” said Woliczko.

Jacob Champoux made a 14-footer with three second to play in the game.

Dan Simon came up short on a triple double. The senior forward had 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in a tremendous effort. Simon went 6 of 10 from the field.

Brandon Rydberg was the only other Oredigger in double figures with 10 points. The sophomore had three rebounds and three assists.

Adam Greger had nine points and eight rebounds.

Champoux led the Warriors with 23 points and five assists.

“This shows the state of Tech basketball to take the No. 11 team in the country all the way to the buzzer at their house. I'm real proud of our guys.”

The Orediggers head to Division II Northwest Nazarene on December 29th in Nampa, Idaho.
