BUTTE -- Montana Tech's men's basketball program and head coach Adam Hiatt are thrilled to announce the Orediggers' 2026-27 game schedule.
This season's slate includes out-of-conference tilts with three NAIA national tournament qualifying teams, but prior to those matchups, it will start with a bang in the Lone Star State.
The Orediggers will head to Houston October 15 for an exhibition with NCAA Division I University of Houston. It will be the second-ever matchup between Montana Tech and the Cougars, who are led by former Oredigger and Montana Tech Hall of Famer Kelvin Sampson. Houston won the previous matchup in 2021, 71-58.
Montana Tech has enjoyed success against Division I teams in recent years; the Orediggers topped University of Montana both last season and in 2019.
The Orediggers will begin the 2026-27 campaign in earnest on Friday, October 30, when they will open the regular season against 2025 NAIA national champion The College of Idaho at the Montana Western Classic in Dillon. Tech will play Bushnell the following day, also at Montana Western.
The following weekend, November 6-7, the Orediggers will debut in Valley Bank Arena in the Best Western Tip Off Classic, where they will play host to Westcliff and reigning Cascade Conference champion Lewis-Clark State.
Other non-conference matchups include a November 13 home game against Stanton and a neutral-site contest November 21 against Eastern Oregon in Couer d'Alene, Idaho.
The Frontier Conference schedule commences with a rivalry matchup November 27 at Montana Western.
Tech opens league play at home the following weekend when Valley City State comes to town December 4. Other home dates include Mayville State (December 5), Montana Western (December 12), Dickinson State (January 8), Bismarck State (January 9), Carroll (January 22), Rocky Mountain (January 23), MSU-Northern (January 29), Providence (January 30), Bellevue (February 12), and Dakota State (February 13).
Montana Tech enters the season on an unprecedented run of success for the program. The Orediggers posted a 23-9 record in 2025-26 and qualified for the NAIA national tournament for the fifth-consecutive season. Tech won its first-round game in the bracket over Oklahoma City before bowing out in the second round.
