Butte – It took an extra frame, but Walla Walla clawed their way to a victory. The Wolves get the upset over the Diggers 79-77.
Montana Tech (7-4) stumbles after winning their last two games.
Walla Walla (2-15) picks up just their second win of the season. This is their second win in the last three games.
The Wolves kept a small lead a majority of the first half.
Adam Greger had seven straight points to put Tech up 29-27 with less than two minutes to play. Tech would take just a one point lead, 30-29, into the break.
Montana Tech led by as many as nine with 8:28 to play, but Walla Walla would not go away. Three pointers by James Thorn and Tristan Greenidge brought the Wolves within two. A Miguel Martinez bucket in the paint sealed up a 67-67 tie, sending the game into overtime.
Two free throws by Greger put Tech up 69-67 to start overtime.
Then two straight baskets by Tristan Greenidge put Walla Walla up 71-69.
Two more free throws by Greger tied it back up at 71 all
Greenidge again answered with two straight threes, Walla Walla went on to win 79-77.
Tech shot 41.3-percent in the field, 52.6-percent from behind the arc, and 55.6-percent from the line.
Adam Greger had 24 points and 8 rebounds on the day.
Brandon Rydberg shot 5 of 7 on the day and 5 of 5 from behind the arc giving him 15 points.
Travis Peevey added 9 points shooting 3 of 4 from behind the arc.
Top scorer was Tristan Greenidge of Walla Walla who had 25 points on the afternoon.
Tech is home next Sunday playing University of Mobile tip-off is at 3 p.m. at Kelvin Sampson Court.
