Dickinson, ND-- Montana Tech got back to business and snagged their third conference victory defeating Dickinson State 75-59 in Dickinson.
The Lady Diggers had it going on offense from the start of the contest, knocking down five threes, and shooting 44 percent from the floor. On the defensive side Montana Tech held state to just 16 points in the first half and 26 percent from the floor. Tech took a comfortable 35-16 lead going into the intermission.Â
The Green Machine picked up where they left off after halftime when
Callee Remsen and
Kelsey DeWit scored a quick six points to increase the Digger lead to 43-23 just a few minutes in.
A
Sophia Baetz triple and a pair of fast break buckets by
Mandy Machinal and
Hattie Thatcher increased the Lady Diggers lead to 58-31 halfway through the second stanza. Thatcher had one of the best games of her young career scoring five points, dishing out eight assists and collecting six caroms to lead Montana Tech.
Kelsey DeWit inched closer to the 1000 career point benchmark scoring eight in the contest and improving her career total to 996 points. Coming into the game DeWit needed 12 points to reach 1000. The senior also grabbed six rebounds for the Lady Diggers.
Montana Tech outrebounded DSU 37-27 in the game. The Diggers had 13 offensive rebounds.
Tech would finish the contest shooting 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three point land, while holding the Blue Hawks to 38 percent shooting.
Montana Tech improves to 3-5 in conference and 7-7 overall while Dickinson State falls to 3-5 in the Frontier and 13-10 overall.
Tech continues the road trip taking on the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers in Rapid City, SD on Monday. That game is set to tip off at 5:30 p.m. MST.
