BUTTE – Montana Tech made a late run at the Griffins, but came up just short falling 80-73 to end the season.
The Orediggers (13-15, 5-11) just miss out on the Frontier Conference Tournament for the second year in a row finishing in seventh place.
No. 21 Westminster (18-11, 11-5) is the second seed going into the tournament.
Despite being outscored 49-32 in the first half, Tech managed to hustle their way into the game at the end of the second half. The Diggers outscored Westminster 41-31 after the break.
The Orediggers shot 50 percent in the game. Tech hit just 1 of 10 from beyond the arc in the game.
The Griffins shot 68 percent in the game including a hot 76.9 percent in the first half. Tallon Robertson led the Griffins with 36 points; 25 came in the first half.
The major highlight of the game was senior
Bryan Bock. Bock needed 18 points to reach the 1,000 point club and he took the entire game to do it. With one minute on the clock, Bock stole the ball off the Griffins Adam Egen at half court and quickly passed to fellow senior
Roman Pruneda-Garza. Garza quickly took the pass to the basket with Bock trailing behind. Garza gave up the ball to Bock who gracefully laid it in for the career mark.
Bock led the Diggers with 18 points on the night. He also had two assists, two rebounds and a steal.
Seniors
Travis Peevey and Garza were the only other two Diggers in double-digits with 13 and 12 points.
