BUTTE, Mont. – Montana Tech head men's basketball coach
Adam Hiatt announced the signing of Missoula Hellgate's Camdyn LaRance and transfer Markieth Brown Jr. from Everett Community College.
LaRance was part of Hellgate High Schools undefeated season and Class AA co-state championship team this year. The first team all-state selection averaged 14.8 points a game while shooting 50.4% from the field and led the state in three point field goal percentage hitting 45% from deep. LaRance ranked second in three point field goals. He also led the state in total steals (51).
"We couldn't be more excited to add Camdyn LaRance to our program," said coach Hiatt. "Cam is one of the best players in the state of Montana and competed on one of the best teams in state history."
LaRance averaged 3.9 rebounds and 2.7assists. He ranked in the top ten in six different stat lines including 5
th in field goal percentage, 6
th in scoring, and 7
th in made field goals.
"He has a terrific physical frame and is an elite shooter and talented scorer. We expect Cam to develop quickly, adapt to the intensity and speed of the college game, and become a consistent producer for us."
Camdyn, the son of Jennifer McNair and Brad LaRance, plans on pursuing a degree in Construction Technology and Management.
Brown, a 6-foot-3 guard from Spokane, Washington, played two years for coach Mike Trautman at Everett Community College. Brown led the Trojans to a record of 47-14 over the two seasons, including a 27-1 conference record and two region championships. The all-time leading scorer for Everett amassed 1,382 points. Brown also holds the record for three point field goals with 224 while shooting 41.6 percent from three point range.
"Markieth is a huge addition to our program. We were in the market for an elite shooter and perimeter scorer and Markieth checked every box."
As a sophomore, Brown averaged 26.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He was named first team all-region as a freshman and was the Northern Region Player of the Year as a sophomore. Brown led the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) in total points (786) and three point field goals (119). He ranked 2
nd in made field goals (259) and 3
rd in made free throws (149).
"Perhaps his best attribute is that he is a winner. He was won everywhere he has played, from high school to junior college. He knows how to compete, he is a smart player, and he is an elite shooter. We expect him to make an immediate impact."
Brown plans on pursuing a degree in Health and Exercise Science.
Montana Tech's recruiting class totals four with the addition of LaRance and Brown.
