GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Montana Tech cross country teams competed at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge Saturday facing some of the top competition in the nation. The Oredigger men finished 16
th in a race with 27 teams and the women landed in 18
th in a field of 25.
Both teams were receiving votes in the NAIA poll going into the event while facing a number of ranked teams or receiving votes. The Great Lakes Challenge was split into two races because of the numbers, Maroon and White.
Edwin Kipainoi took 16
th in a field that had 239 runners in the Maroon race which featured the top teams. Kipainoi had a time of 24:54.8 in the 8k race and was the top Frontier Conference runner.
Justin Morgan was the next top finisher for the Oredigger men in 33
rd with a time of 25:21.30. The Orediggers.
The Carroll College men in 13
th ahead of the Orediggers and Montana Western was in 17
th just behind Tech.
Hailey Nielson was the top finisher for the Oredigger women who were also participating in the Maroon race taking 20
th. Nielson finished with a time of 18:10.70 in the 5k race that had 214 runners.
Carlin Manning finished in 39
th with a time of 18:44.90.
Carroll College took 9
th and Rocky Mountain finished in 11
th in the women's field.
Montana Tech runs in the Frontier Conference Championship next. The meet for the conference title is in Helena at Bill Roberts Golf Course on November 4
th.
