Scouting the Argos
The Argos (12-9, 6-2) have won four straight games after losing to Montana Tech 95-82 on Kelvin Sampson Court. The Argos have just two conference losses and are tied with Tech in the conference standings going into Thursday. Sophomore Kenny Curtis leads the team in scoring after becoming eligible in December averaging 22.2 points per game and grabbing 5.5 rebounds. Junior Davien Harris-Williams, who also started in December, is a key component to their success in their conference run averaging 21.8 points. Providence leads the league in scoring during conference averaging 81.9 points a game.
Scouting the Lights
The Lights are 2-1 after falling to the Orediggers in double overtime on January 12th. Northern defeated Carroll at home 69-59 before losing to Providence 77-71 last week. They are coming off a triple overtime game barely holding off Rocky 86-84. Northern is fourth in scoring in league games averaging 76.3 points. Senior forward leads the Lights averaging 13.2 points a game and is fifth in the league. He is second in Frontier contest in rebounding averaging 7.8 per game.
Staying Put in the Polls—The Orediggers stayed firm at No. 12 in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll this week. The Orediggers have been in the coaches' top 25 nine straight polls going back to last season, the longest streak since the polls were established in 2000-01. Also a first for Tech, the 2022-23 season is the first time the Orediggers have appeared in every poll during the year.
Oredigger Streaks—The Orediggers nine-game win streak was cut last Saturday by the Saints in Helena. Nine consecutive victories is the school record. The Orediggers had a nine-game win streak last season when Tech won nine straight from January 8th to February 5th. That run was the longest since the 1990-91 team won nine-in-a-row under head coach Rick Dessing. Head coach Kelvin Sampson won eight-straight in his last season with Tech in the 1984-85 season. Adam Hiatt has hit the nine-game mark twice in two seasons and is currently holding the longest home streak in school history with 24 straight going back to last season.
Williams Heating Up—Junior transfer
Asa Williams dropped 16 points against Rocky and another 10 at the Saints Williams is averaging 13.5 points in the new year and is ranked fifth in scoring during conference games with 14.6. Williams is sixth in three-point percentage making 42.9% of his long balls against conference opponents.
Bellach Keeps Scoring—Caleb Bellach has scored over 20 points in four of his last five games and five of his last seven. The junior had a season-high 27 against Carroll after tying his season-high of 26 the previous game. Bellach's career high of 28 points was last season at Rocky on December 4th, 2021.
