Scouting the Skylights
The Skylights (7-20, 0-14) are winless in conference games this year and have lost 12 straight games. Northern is averaging a league low 50.8 points per game and 27.2 rebounds during conference. Junior transfer Briaunna McCullough leads the team in scoring this season after two years at Lackawanna College in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. McCullough is fourth in the conference averaging 13.6 points and shooting 34.8% from the field and grabbing 4.4 rebounds a game. Sophomore forward Shyan Krass leads the Skylights in rebounding and ranks fifth in the league with a 5.9 average. Junior guard Jalen Callender is fourth in the conference in assists averaging 3 per game.
 
Frontier Conference Tournament—Great Falls and the University of Providence will host the first single-site Frontier Conference Tournament in over a decade at the Four Seasons Arena. The tournament that determines the leagues automatic bid for the NAIA National Tournament starts Sunday February 26th. The first round will see the No. 4 Argos and No. 5 Orediggers open the tournament at 1 p.m. followed by No. 3 Battlin' Bears and No. 6 Skylights at 3 p.m. The top two teams receive a bye into the semi final round. Western and Rocky play each other Saturday, but even if the Bears defeat the Bulldogs, the post season has already been determined as the Bulldogs have already downed the Bears twice and hold the tiebreaker. The Saints will play the lowest ranked opponent Monday at 1 p.m. and the Bulldogs will play the highest seed.
 
Climbing Records—Senior Dani Urick is currently just outside of the top 10 scoring list in school history with 1,220 points ranking 14th all time behind former team mate and another Montana Class C product Mesa Williams who finished with 1,231 points. The Belt High School product is sixth all-time with 395 field goals just surpassing recent grad Mollie Peoples (394) last game. Urick has made the most free throws in school history with 315 and is third in free throw percentage making 82.7% from the line. Urick picked up her 438th rebound last week and is now tenth all-time.
 
Rice in double Digits—Redshirt sophomore Soda Rice hit double-digit scoring twice last week with 10 points against the Saints and led the team with 15 at Providence. Rice is averaging 7.9 points during the conference schedule and has hit the double-digit mark in three of her last five games. Rice is shooting 36.9% from the field this season, but is second on the team averaging 43.3% during conference games. She is leading the team in three-point percentage during Frontier games hitting 56.3% from long.
 
Getting Ahead Early—The Orediggers have found success when they get ahead of their opponents early in the game. Tech has five of their seven wins when leading at the half. Tech stayed close with Providence last Saturday and then the Argos ended the first quarter and started the second on big runs. Tech had to come from behind to win last time against the Skylights. The Orediggers scored 47 points in the second half, their highest scoring half in 2023.
