Rooney Named NAIA Honorable Mention

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2022-23 Women's Basketball All-America Teams today. Montana Tech's Tavia Rooney is an honorable mention.

All of the selections are made by the All-America Committee and are comprised of first, second and third teams as well as honorable mention. There are 12 members on each of the first three All-America teams.

Rooney, a forward from Townsend, Montana, is a two-time all-conference honoree and was selected first team all-conference this season. Rooney was third in the conference this year in scoring averaging 14.3 points a game and ranked second in rebounds with 7.3 boards per contest. Rooney averaged 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals a game.

Rooney just finished her final year with the Orediggers. The former Frontier Conference Freshman of the Year set the record for rebounds in a game her freshman year grabbing 22 against William Jessop (Calif.). Rooney finished with the best rebound average since 2000 with 9.2 per game. Rooney is second in most steals (158) and blocks (122). She averaged 12 points per game during her career finishing 17th all-time in scoring with 1,115 points. Rooney is fifth in made field goals with 411 and fourth in free throws with 264.

Montana Tech wrapped up their first season under head coach Jeff Graham. The Orediggers finished 7-19 overall and 3-12 in conference games.
