GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Alyssa Plant's 20th-place result led the way for the Montana Tech women's cross country team Saturday morning at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge, carrying the Orediggers to a ninth-place finish in a stacked field.
Plant raced the 5k course at Grand Rapids' Riverside Park in 18:21.7, a season-best time for the sophomore, to take 20th out of 180 racers in the field. Junior
Kamryn Comba also placed in the top 50, taking 45th at 18:55.6. Junior
Alyssa Jany (65th, 19:10.7), freshman
Emily See (70th, 19:14.4), and sophomore
Peyton Walker (124th, 20:03.3) also scored for the Orediggers.
Montana Tech totaled 297 points in the team tally. Tech was the second-quickest Frontier Conference team in the field, finishing a spot behind Rocky Mountain College's 282.
Junior
Ben Zerr set the pace for the Digger men, coming in 50th in the 8k race at 25:14.0. Junior
Derek Schultz (145th, 26:33.2), freshman
Bryon Fanning (170th, 26:54.2), and junior
Jacob Sriraman (176th, 27:08.9) also raced for Montana Tech in the 202-man field. With four finishers, the Orediggers did not log a team score.
Montana Tech's cross country teams will race next for the Frontier Conference title Friday, Nov. 8 in Billings.
