HELENA, Mont. -- Macy Mayer's defensive prowess helped the Montana Tech women's basketball team knock off No. 14 Mayville State last Thursday at home. Now the junior from Bozeman is the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Mayer was everywhere on the defensive end Thursday, snagging four rebounds, three blocks, and three steals as the Orediggers topped the Comets, 89-79. She also scored three points in the Tech win.
She is averaging 5.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.8 steals for the 4-1 Orediggers.
It was a clean sweep of the conference's weekly awards for Montana Tech;
Hadley Humphreys won the honor on the offensive side of the ball. This season's is the best start for the Oredigger women since 2019-20, when Tech got off to a 7-1 record to begin the year.
Montana Tech will stay home this weekend to take on Northwest Saturday at 6 p.m. The game will follow the 17th-ranked Oredigger volleyball team's NAIA National Tournament opening-round affair against Bushnell, which starts at 4 on Kelvin Sampson Court.
