KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Montana Tech men's basketball team landed sixth in the latest NAIA coaches' poll, the national office announced Wednesday.

The Orediggers are off to the best start in recorded program history, boasting a 10-0 record through the first month of the season. Tech reached that mark with a pair of victories since the previous poll was released, defeating Maine-Fort Kent, 103-52, November 29 and a top-10 Canadian team in St. Mary's (Alberta), 79-62, last Friday.

Montana Tech continued to be the only Frontier Conference team in the poll, though Rocky Mountain received votes from some balloters.

Georgetown (Ky.) moved into the No. 1 spot in Wednesday's announcement, snagging 17 first-place nods. No. 2 College of Idaho, No. 4 Arizona Christian, and No. 7 Northwestern (Iowa) received a single first-place vote each.

The Orediggers continue their tough out-of-conference schedule next week at the Cactus Classic in Chandler, Ariz. Tech faces off with No. 4 Arizona Christian Monday at 4 p.m. and plays another top-10 team in No. 9 The Master's at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Rating Methodology:
  • The NAIA Men's Basketball Poll is for publicity purposes only and has no weight or bearing in the selection process for national championship field consideration
  • The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Continental Athletic Conference (Independents)
  • The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second place and so on through the list
  • The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low ratings) is removed
  • Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered "receiving votes"
  • Frequency of polls occur bi-weekly
  • Records listed are as of the end of the day on Monday of the poll week
