Oredigger Women in First Place after Day One of DSU Spring Invite

Women in front, men in fourth

DICKINSON, N.D.- Day one of the Dickinson State University Invitational is in the books, the Oredigger women sit in first, and the Montana Tech men are in fourth.
In their opening round of the spring season, the Oredigger women (342 - +54) hold a one-stroke advantage over the University of Jamestown, and Dickinson sits in third (+63).

"Franchi and Emma played great today. I'm excited to see what they can do tomorrow when hopefully the weather cooperates a little bit more." Coach Sean Ryan.

Individually, Franchi Ceartin sits on top of the pile with an opening round 79. There is a four-way tie at 81 behind Franchi, which includes teammate Emma Woods.
Another pair of Orediggers are tied for tenth, Sami Benson, and Annika Brocklebank. The pair each shot an opening round 90 (+18). Samantha Moore sits in 13th at +19, Kodie Hoagland in 15th at +20, Sierra Sundheim shot a 94, which was good for 16th, and Hayden Pride finished in 23rd at +29.

"Our women are in a great place and I'm very excited that we are leading the tournament. We had a larger lead throughout most of the day but didn't close as strong as we'd liked to." Coach Ryan.

On the men's side, the Orediggers (329) are 12 strokes off the pace set by Dickinson State (317), the Jamestown Orange sits in second with a 320, the Jamestown black is in third at 325, followed by the Orediggers with a 329.

Individually, the Oredigger men have four golfers tied for 10th, each shooting an opening round 82, Joe McGreevey, Tyler Avery, Gabe Witham, and Jhett Braley. JR Small finished in 18th at +11. Nick Pasquarello shot an 86, which was good for 24th, Joe Opitz opened with an 88, good for 30th, and Trey Mattson rounded out the Orediggers with an opening round 90.

"For our men, it was just a grind. I think we did a good job of encouraging each other to keep in it and try and just keep the ball in front of us. We have to do a much better job of eliminating bigger numbers on our scorecards we want to come back and win this."

Both the men and women will play a final round on Tuesday.
