RICHLAND, Wash. -- The Montana Tech men's golf team held firm in fifth place through Day 2 of the Columbia Basin Invitational Tuesday at Meadow Springs Country Club.
The Orediggers finished out Round 2 early in the morning at 23-over-par 311 and completed Round 3 at 29-over 317 on the challenging par-72, 6,957-yard course. They finished the tournament at 93-over 957.
Junior
Tyler Avery topped the Montana Tech leaderboard, finishing in a tie for sixth at 16-over-par 232. He finished the final few holes of Round 2 in the morning, coming at 74 with five birdies before shooting 77 in the final round.
Fellow junior
Joe McGreevey also landed a top-10 finish, counting scores of 81, 80, and 72 to finish at 233. His even-par round Tuesday was tied for third-lowest in the field.
Senior
Trey Mattson (83-77-77—237) followed in 15th, while freshman
Brenner Booth checked into the top 25 at 82-78-81—241. Sophomores
Colin Wade (83-76-88—247, t-32nd) and
Carson Hupka (86-81-87—254, t-46th) also finished in the top 50.
Bellevue College won the team title at 56 over par for the three rounds, and Corban's Isaac Laro claimed medalist honors at 8 over.
Montana Tech will now prepare for the Frontier Conference Championships, which will take place April 28-29 at Papago Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz.
