PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Two Montana Tech men's golfers played their ways into the top 15, leading the Orediggers to fifth place two-thirds of the way through the Frontier Conference men's golf championship Tuesday at Papago Golf Club in Phoenix.
Junior
Joe McGreevey set the pace for the Orediggers, carding rounds of 4-over-par 76 and 6-over 78 around the par-72, 6,662-yard course at Papago. McGreevey sits alone in 11th headed into the third and final round of the championship.
Colin Wade didn't finish far behind. The sophomore rebounded from a 12-over 80 in Round 1 to shoot the team's best Round 2 score, a 4-over 76 to move into a tie for 14th.
Sophomore
Carson Hupka wrapped up the day tied for 23rd (78-82—160), followed by freshman
Brenner Booth in a tie for 31st (85-81—166) and senior
Trey Mattson (83-84—167), who is tied for 33rd.
The Oredigger men finished the day with two team rounds of 29-over 317 to sit fifth in the eight-team field, just seven shots away from fourth-place Dickinson State. Defending champion Rocky Mountain led the field at 1-over-par 577, powered by individual leader Kristjan Burkelca's 3-under 141.
The Frontier's teams will finish the championship Wednesday with the final round beginning at 7 a.m. local time.
