HELENA -- Montana Tech's Tyler Avery led the way for the Oredigger men on the golf course last week in his 2025-26 season debut. 

Tuesday, those efforts earned him the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference men's golfer of the week honor. 

Avery, a junior from Kalispell, began the Columbia Basin Invitational with a 9-over-par 81 last Monday at Meadow Springs Golf Course in Richland, Wash., and he followed that with a 2-over 74, a round that featured five birdies, in his afternoon round. 

He finished the tournament last Tuesday with a 5-over 77 in the third round. That was good enough to put Avery in a tie for sixth at the tournament at 16-over-par 232, just eight shots out of first. 

The weekly award is the second for the Orediggers this spring. Trey Mattson won the honor March 24. It is the second golfer of the week honor in Avery's career. He also won the award on October 23, 2023 after winning the Yellowjacket Fall Invite in Billings.
