HELENA -- Jarrett Wilson quarterbacked the No. 4-ranked Montana Tech football team to a perfect regular season Saturday afternoon.
Monday, he earned his first-career Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference offensive player of the week award for his efforts.
The sophomore from Polson was nearly perfect in the Orediggers' 41-0 win over Valley City State Saturday, completing 24 of 26 passes for 286 yards and four touchdowns. Wilson also rushed five times for 24 yards in the victory.
Wilson was responsible for Tech's first four scores in the rout. In the first quarter, he found
Levi Torgerson and
Nick Michelotti for a touchdown apiece, and he repeated that performance in the second. Torgerson's TDs went for 38 and 18 yards, while Michelotti's catches covered 18 and nine yards.
A first-year starter, Wilson has been instrumental in making Montana Tech's one of the premier offenses in the NAIA this season. His completion percentage of 76.5 and pass efficiency rating of 203.4 both lead the nation, and he ranks 14th in the NAIA in touchdown passes with 26.
The Oredigger offense ranks in the NAIA's top 20 in points per game, total offense, passing yards per attempt, passing touchdowns, rushing yards, first downs, third- and fourth-down conversion percentage, red-zone efficiency, and time of possession.
Montana Tech is 11-0 for the first time in program history and took the automatic qualifier from the Frontier Conference East Division into the NAIA Football Championship Series, where the selection committee seeded the Orediggers third. Tech will have a first-round bye before playing host to a second-round playoff game Saturday, November 29 against a to-be-determined opponent.
Details on tickets and fan experience for next Saturday's home postseason game will be available in the coming days.
