LEWISTON, Idaho -- Montana Tech's men's golf team debuted in 2025 with a sixth-place team finish at Lewis-Clark State's Warrior Spring Classic Monday and Tuesday.
The Orediggers finished the tournament with a 306 to wrap up with a 54-hole team score of 904, finishing 11 strokes behind North Idaho College for fifth and just 21 strokes off NIC's 'B' team for second. Host L-C State won the tournament at 847 thrice around the par-72, 6,603-yard course at Lewiston Golf & Country Club.
Freshman
Carson Hupka's 3-over-par 75 set the pace for Tech in the final round. The first-year logged three birdies in the round.
Sophomore
Tyler Avery made a team-high four birdies on the day en route to a 76, and the Kalispell product led the way for the Diggers in the tournament at 223, putting him in a tie for 14th.
Senior
Gabe Witham shot 78 on his way to a tie for 21st (227), while sophomore
Joe McGreevey carded 77 to also crack the top 25 (228, t-24th). Hupka landed 26th, and junior
Joe Opitz finished 39th at 243.
Playing as an individual, freshman
Colin Wade also checked in a 75 on his final round, moving the Bigfork native up to 36th for the tournament at 239. The Diggers' other individuals, freshmen
Christian Lund and
Landon Olson took 38th (242) and 41st (248), respectively.
Montana Tech will have one final tune-up before the Frontier Conference championship. The Orediggers will head to Richland, Wash.'s Meadow Springs Country Club for the Columbia Basin Invitational starting April 6.
