DICKINSON, N.D. -- Junior
Joe McGreevey led the way for the Montana Tech men's golf team, shooting 2 under par through 36 holes Monday as the Orediggers sit third after Day 1 of the Dickinson State Invitational.
The Helena Capital graduate recorded a pair of 1-under-par 71s at Heart River Golf Course and landed in a tie for ninth place two-thirds of the way through the tournament.
Tech's men played rounds of 5-over-par 293 and 2-over-par 290 in two traverses around the par-72, 6,734-yard course. Rocky Mountain (279-270—549) leads the tournament, and Frontier Conference newcomer Bellevue (279-284—563) sits second. The Orediggers have a nine-shot lead over fourth-place Dickinson State.
Following McGreevey's strong rounds, sophomore
Carson Hupka was 1-over on the day, landing him 13th. Sophomore
Landon Olson (72-76—148) and freshman
Brenner Booth (77-73—150) also checked into the top 20. Senior
Trey Mattson (84-74—158) rounded out the scoring five for Tech; he's in a tie for 35th.
Playing individually, sophomores
Christian Lund (73-81—154, t-27th),
Keyan Coate (76-80—156, t-30th), and
Colin Wade (80-78—158, t-35th) also produced strong days.
The Oredigger men will finish the tournament Tuesday with another 18 holes.
