HELENA -- Montana Tech's
Trey Mattson landed the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference men's golfer of the week award, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Mattson, a senior from Missoula, played the best tournament of his collegiate career relative to par, shooting 7-over 223 over three rounds last Monday and Tuesday in the Warrior Spring Classic in Clarkston, Wash. He finished tied for 17th at the event.
Mattson shot even-par 72 in his first trip around Red Wolf Golf Club and followed that with scores of 77 and 74 to lead the way for the Orediggers in the tournament. Tech finished seventh as a team.
The award is the first of Mattson's career, and he's the first Montana Tech men's golfer to claim the honor since
Gabe Witham last April.
He and the Orediggers will wrap up the regular-season part of their schedule this coming Monday and Tuesday at the Columbia Basin Invitational in Richland, Wash.
