KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Montana Tech senior cornerback Christian Hansen added a national honor to his already impressive opening weekend, earning the PrestoSports-NAIA defensive player of the week award following the fifth-ranked Oredigger football team's 24-14 victory over No. 11 Carroll College.

Hansen, a Butte native and second-team All-Frontier East pick a season ago, was previously named the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Fighting Saints.

The Butte High product was a force throughout the Orediggers' victory, recording a team-high six tackles, including two tackles for loss, while intercepting a pass, forcing a fumble and breaking up two passes.

Hansen began his big day in the second quarter with a tackle for loss that put Carroll in a third-and-long situation the Fighting Saints were unable to convert.

He took over after halftime.

On the third play of the second half, Hansen intercepted Carroll quarterback Kaden Huot, setting up the Orediggers' second touchdown of the game.

On Carroll's very next play from scrimmage, Hansen struck again, stripping the ball from Gavin Vandenacre. Asher Feddes recovered the loose ball, giving Montana Tech back-to-back forced turnovers on consecutive defensive plays. Both the interception and forced fumble were the first of Hansen's collegiate career.

The PrestoSports-NAIA Defensive Player of the Week honor is the first national weekly award of Hansen's career.
