HELENA -- Rhys Layton helped power the Montana Tech volleyball team to a pair of straight-set victories over the weekend as the Orediggers kicked off Frontier Conference play.
Monday, the senior from Eagle, Idaho was named the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference setter of the week for her efforts.
Layton totaled 58 assists, nine digs, four kills, and a block as Montana Tech rolled past Mayville State and Valley City State on the road.
She dished out 26 assists and made eight digs Friday in Tech's 26-24, 25-18, 25-22 win at Mayville State. Saturday at VCSU, Layton racked up 32 assists, three kills, and a dig in the Orediggers' 25-18, 25-22, 25-10 victory.
The weekly award is the seventh of Layton's career and her second so far this season.
The Orediggers, riding a seven-match win streak and receiving votes in the national top 25 poll, have a busy week ahead with home tilts against Montana Western Wednesday at 6 p.m., Bismarck State Friday at 6 p.m., and Dickinson State Saturday at 1 p.m.
For Wednesday's match, fans can receive a 2026 Oredigger volleyball schedule poster at the door (while supplies last), and kids wearing any kind of jersey receive free admission. Montana Tech students are admitted free with their Digger Card.
