LAUREL, Mont. – The Montana Tech Men's Golf Team is in second place just back one stroke of leader Rocky Mountain at the Beartooth Invitational at the Laurel Golf Club. The Oredigger women are in third place and 21 strokes behind leader Rocky.
Matt Hobbs leads the Oredigger men and is in a three-way tie for second place after firing an opening round 72 (E). Mitchell Thiessen of Rocky is ahead two strokes in the leader spot.
The Rocky team opened with a 291 (+3) and Montana Tech is just behind with a 292 (+4).
Sean Ramsbacher and
Jace Rhodes are in a pack in a fifth-place tie with three other golfers after a first round 72(+1).
Isaiah Weldon is a stroke behind his teammate in T10 with a 74 (+2).
Nick Pasquarello is at T17after an opening round 77 (+5).
On the women's side, Rocky leads with an opening 335 (+47). South Dakota School of Mines is in second with a 346 (+58) and the Orediggers in third with a 356 (+68).
Rocky's Claire Wright leads the field after shooting an even round 72.
Samantha Benson and
Emily Kelly shot opening rounds of 87 (+15) and are in a four-way tie in sixth place.
Cierra Sundheim is T12 after an opening 89 (+17). Franchi Certain is T18 hitting a 93 (+21) first round.
Lauren Williams is playing as an individual for Tech and is in a tie for 16
th place with a 91 (+21).
The tournament continues tomorrow morning for the final round.
