PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Two-thirds of the Frontier Conference women's golf championship is in the books, and Montana Tech's
Emma Woods is in the hunt.
The senior carded rounds of 7-over-par 79 and 10-over 82 in Tuesday's opening rounds at Papago Golf Club to sit tied for second place headed into Wednesday's final 18 holes.
She sits just two strokes off tournament leader Brooklyn Materi of Dickinson State (80-79—159). The pair were the only players in the field to break 80 in a round on the par-72, 6,475-yard track at Papago. Woods finished the day deadlocked with Grace Metcalf of Rocky Mountain and Shreya Suresh of Bellevue at 161 total strokes.
The Oredigger women wrapped up the day in fourth place at 107-over-par 683, shooting four-player team scores of 340 and 343.
Senior
Kodie Hoagland and freshman
Keni Wade finished 36 holes tied for 14th at 172 strokes apiece, followed by sophomore
Casha Corder (88-90—178) in 19th and senior
Hayden Pride (95-94—189) in 26th.
Defending champion Rocky Mountain wrapped up the day with a 14-stroke advantage on the field at 660. The Orediggers and Battlin' Bears will be joined by second-place Bellevue (674) and third-place Carroll (682) in Wednesday's final-round pairings.
Play will begin at 7 a.m. local time Wednesday at Papago with the conference title on the line.
