BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana Tech women's golf team teed off on the last tournament of the Frontier Conference season at Battlin' Bears Invitational at Yegen Golf Club today. The Orediggers shot a 327 (+43) and are 17 strokes back of Rocky Mountain on the par 71 course.
"We left a lot out there today but our team score was pretty solid," said head golf coach
Sean Ryan. "The course played pretty challenging today with wet conditions. We ended up with a lot of muddy lies and the course played long today for the ladies."
North Idaho Community College is playing in the Frontier finale and is in second place with a team score of 322 (+38).
The Battlin' Bears have four of the top six spots leading the team scoring with a 310 (+26).
Valentina Zuleta from Rocky is on top of the women's leaderboard postings a 73 (+2) today. Montana Tech's
Kodie Hoagland is in third after shooting a 76 (+5).
"Kodie played great to lead us and put herself in a great position going into tomorrow's final round."
Samantha Benson finished with an 81 (+10) and is in a three-way tie in ninth place.
"Sami played great today and I know the rest of the lineup can go low tomorrow and help us work our way back into contention."
Emma Woods is in T17 shooting an 84 (+13) today.
Franchi Ceartin shot an 86 (+15) and in 21st. Sierra Sundeim is in T21 after a first round 88 (+17).
Playing as an individual,
Kennedy Lean finished in T17 with an opening round score of 84 (+13).
"It was nice to see, even if it wasn't our best scores, that we had all eight of our players shoot 88 or better. This is a great group and I know we're going to tear it up tomorrow."
The final round of the Frontier Conference season starts tomorrow at Yegen Golf Club.
