EAGLE, Idaho – The Montana Tech Golf Teams finished the final day of the Frontier Conference Championship with the Oredigger men taking second place and the women finishing in third.
Rocky Mountain won the men's field, but both the Battlin' Bears and Orediggers finished +12 in the third round. Rocky finished at +33 and the Orediggers were +52. Providence took third with a +138.
"We played a really great round of golf today as a team on the men's side and ended up coming up just short of our team goal," said head coach
Sean Ryan. "I'm very proud of all that this group accomplished and that they battle back as well as they did. I think yesterday's round just dug us to big a hole to overcome."
Mitchell Thiessen was the individual winner shooting a 74 (+3) today for a final score of 214 (+1) for the tournament.
Sean Ramsbacher remained in second picking up one stroke with a 73 (+2) and finished with a 220 (+7).
"Sean played a good round today and hit some great shots, but just couldn't get anything to drop. He put pressure on the leader, but couldn't make the birdies he needed down the stretch like he did last year to win it. He has had a tremendous career for the Orediggers and I'm very proud of him and all he's accomplished. We are going to hold out hope that he can receive an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament."
Isaiah Weldon finished in sixth place with a 228 (+15) and
Matt Hobbs took seventh with a 229 (+16).
Jhett Braley finished in a tie for ninth with a 233 (+20).
"I can't say enough about our seniors Sean and Isaiah. You cannot find two better young men to have on your team. They left a great mark on this program and helped put the Diggers on the map for NAIA golf."
Jace Rhodes tied for the low round of the day with a 71 and moved into 11th place with a final score of 234 (+21).
"Jace played his best round of the tournament and I'm very proud of how he battled and found his golf game at the right time."
