KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Montana Tech's unbeaten football team continued to climb up the NAIA's weekly rankings systems, moving up to No. 1 in the Football Performance Indicator and earning the No. 4 spots in both the Netting Professionals NAIA coaches' poll and Massey ratings, the national office announced Monday.
The Orediggers returned to the No. 1 spot in the FPI — a data-driven metric that evaluates teams based on their wins and strength of schedule — after spending a week at No. 2. Tech was atop the ratings in their first two iterations as well.
Montana Tech leapt into a tie for fourth in the coaches' top 25 following the Orediggers' bye week, matching Friends with 387 points. The two teams are the only ones with seven wins so far this season; Tech is 7-0 for the first time in program history. No. 4 is the highest Montana Tech has ever been ranked in the coaches' poll.
Grand View remained the unanimous No. 1, while No. 9 Carroll, No. 16 College of Idaho, and No. 20 Montana Western also represented the Frontier Conference in the poll. Dakota State continued to receive votes.
In the Massey ratings, Montana Tech moved up a spot to No. 4 following the bye. Both the FPI and Massey ratings are used as NAIA championship selection criteria, while the coaches' poll is not.
Tech looks to remain perfect on the 2025 season Saturday at home when Mayville State comes to Butte. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m.
