KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Montana Tech's football team maintained its top-five rankings in all three NAIA ratings outlets, the national office announced Monday.
Fresh off Saturday's 42-13 win at Rocky Mountain, the Orediggers moved up to No. 2 in the Massey Ratings, checked in at No. 3 in the NAIA Football Performance Indicator, and remained No. 5 in the coaches' poll.
It was the second-straight week Montana Tech moved up in the Massey Ratings, an independent system that accounts for strength of schedule, independently ranks teams based on offense and defense, and weights home and road wins differently.
In the NAIA FPI, Tech dropped to third despite the lopsided victory. The Orediggers' rating dropped to 30.44 due to its opponents' winning percentage. The FPI is a data-driven metric that evaluates teams based on their wins and strength of schedule.
Montana Tech remained No. 5 in the coaches' poll, just a spot off its highest ranking of the season. The Orediggers stayed the highest-ranked Frontier Conference team in the coaches' top 25, followed by No. 8 Carroll, No. 15 College of Idaho, and No. 19 Montana Western. Dakota State continued to receive votes.
Defending national champion Grand View holds the top spot in all three ratings systems.
The NAIA's Football Championship Series selection committee uses both the FPI and Massey ratings as criteria for the postseason; the coaches' poll is not considered.
With Saturday's victory, Montana Tech improved to 9-0 for the first time in program history. Tech will look to reach double-digit wins for the first time since 2016 Saturday when the Orediggers head to Dickinson State. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
