LEWISTON, Idaho -- Besting its Day 1 score by 10 strokes, the Montana Tech women's golf team leapt into a fourth-place finish Tuesday at the Warrior Spring Invite.
Montana Tech posted a team score of 331 Tuesday, storming by North Idaho College to move to fourth for the tournament. The Diggers finished with a two-day score of 341-331—672. Host Lewis-Clark State won the tournament at 326, besting College of Idaho by just four strokes.
The Orediggers fared much better their second time around the 5,800-yard, par-72 Lewiston Golf & Country Club. Senior
Samantha Benson again led the way, dropping two strokes off her first round to finish at 8-over 80. She finished alone in 11th at 162.
Freshman
Casha Corder matched Benson's 82 in Tuesday's round, jumping up to 20th in the standings (89-82—171). She did most of her damage with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 5 and 6.
Senior
Franchi Ceartin and juniors
Kodie Hoagland and
Emma Woods all landed in a tie for 21st at 172 strokes. Ceartin had the Diggers' other birdie of the round, making 3 on the par-4 15th.
Junior
Hayden Pride came in just behind in 24th, dropping two strokes from her opening round to come in at 85. Junior
Samantha Moore (91, 30th) and freshman
Delaney Clark (94, t-33rd) also shaved two strokes from their Monday rounds.
Tech will look ahead to April 6, when the Orediggers will head to Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland, Wash., for the two-day Columbia Basin Invitational.
